3rd Middlesex had arrived in France in January 1915 as part of 85 Brigade, 28th Division which had been in the thick of the fighting during the fierce battles of 2nd Ypres in April and May 1915.  By July things had calmed down and 28th Division were holding the line just to the south of Ypres in the St. Eloi sector.

Things may have been quieter here but not so for Lance Corporal Knight who was killed in action on 22 July 1915. As yet there is no further information as to the circumstances of his death.
